The Good Shepherd Shelter

The first domestic violence shelter in Los Angeles

THE GOOD SHEPHERD SHELTER PROVIDES A SAFE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN CAN HEAL, REAWAKEN THEIR DIGNITY AND SELF CONFIDENCE, AND LEARN THE SKILLS THAT WILL HELP THEM STOP THE CYCLE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

The Good Shepherd Shelter provides a safe, nurturing environment in which mothers and their children can heal, reawaken their dignity and self confidence and learn the skills that will help them stop the cycle of domestic violence. Now serving the community for over a century, we have a long history that reflects the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, their dedication to support women and children and our mission to end the cycle of domestic violence.

Our services are very unique. Being the first domestic violence shelter to open in Los Angeles, we are the pioneers and experts in providing services for battered women and children, where the whole family is our focus and priority.

“My name is Amanda Gibson and I’m the Executive Director of Good Shepherd Shelter. We’re expanding our program for the first time in forty years. We’re planting seeds for our future to grow in our school and our residential program. We’re looking for everyone to send out the word about this exciting new growth that we are experiencing. We need your support at this time.

At Good Shepherd Shelter, we have a trauma-informed school, therapeutic programs and a residential program, as well as outreach into the community. We want to double the number of families that we serve. We serve twelve families traditionally every year and we want to double that number. Will you help us do that?”

Help end the generational cycle of domestic violence by donating today. Your support is vital to building, enhancing, and maintaining quality programs for the families in our care. Donations help Good Shepherd Shelter support our families. We recognize the need of both our families at our shelter as well as our aftercare families. Your donations will help the Good Shepherd Shelter elementary school, child development center, adult learning center, our residential programs and more. Donate today online at www.goodshepherdshelter.org. Check and money orders should be made payable to The Good Shepherd Shelter, and can be mailed to The Good Shepherd Shelter, PO Box 19487, Los Angeles, California, 90019.

Help end the generational cycle of violence by donating today.

GET INVOLVED

From one hour a week to an hour a year, there are some many ways to get involved at Good Shepherd Shelter. Whether you spend time with the children at our on-site elementary school, give a presentation to the women in our Adult Learning Center, help our front desk, maintain our grounds or come out for a special event, your presence is valuable to our families, staff and the Sisters of  the Good Shepherd. Volunteering at Good Shepherd Shelter will not only fulfill your need to give back to your community but has an incredible effect on the women and children that we serve.
