The devastating cycle of domestic violence is indiscriminate and spares no economic class, ethnicity or profession.

Run by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and helped by dedicated and experienced staff and volunteers, Good Shepherd Shelter strives to break this generational cycle and  to heal its survivors -- the mother and her children.

At Good Shepherd Shelter, we welcome mothers and children of every culture, color and creed, and offer them a unique environment for long-term emotional, social, educational and spiritual healing and growth.

We are the sole shelter providing an on-site accredited school, on-site therapy, on-site legal advocacy, and independent apartment units for battered women and their children.

With 90% of the families who complete our program going on to lead healthy, violence-free lives, our program has proven effective.

In Los Angeles since 1904, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd continue a tradition of more than 350 years of caring for women and children in abusive and inhumane situations. In 1977, this international congregation serving in 70 countries founded Good Shepherd Shelter of Los Angeles as one of our nation’s first shelters for victims of domestic violence.

To continue in our mission to break the cycle of abuse, we need your help.

Good Shepherd Shelter for Battered Women & Children serves Los Angeles with therapy, tutoring and preschool. We provide a safe environment for women and children and give them a second chance at happiness.
